Discovered this image on what I believe to be Russian Livejournal account. I have no idea from the comments if this is the author or merely another interested blog/site like myself. Doesn’t matter really.

I also like this one, from the same Livejournal account:

Philips Carousel Commercial by Adam Berg

This is just, well awesome. Watch…

Director Adam Berg created this amazing interactive campaign for Philips’ new CINEMA 21:9 TV, it’s got me quite moist.

Found on-line at www.philips.co.uk/cinema, the site is host to an exclusive fully interactive movie, entitled Carousel, directed by Adam Berg with music provided from Michael Fakesch. The 2 minute 19 second cinematic feature is filmed in one continuous tracking shot and offers an exploration into the world of movies being made for the cinema screen through the eyes of the director and the special effects and lighting experts. During playback of the movie, users have interactive touch points in which they can access additional content and feature demonstrations.

The YouTube version of this suffers from low resolution, so check out the original.

Flora by Gucci. Directed by Chris Cunningham.

Big fan of Chris Cunningham. And this is beautiful audio visual harmony. You can view this on the Gucci site, just click here. Wonder what’s happening with his supposed feature film…

Dazed Magazine’s online existance, Dazed Digital, has a fair bit of info about this piece, the beginning of which I’ll shamelessly repost for you here…

From its original incarnation as a silk scarf specifically designed for Princess Grace of Monaco in 1966, to the sought-after accessories and ready to wear pieces designed by Frida Giannini in the 21st century, Gucci’s Flora has proven to have a timeless allure.  Rediscovered by Giannini as inspiration for the new Gucci fragrance, the heritage of Flora has been transformed into a sensuous and empowering new scent.  Flora rolls out across the world from this month, launching internationally with a commercial shot by Chris Cunningham.

Cunningham’s film, starring Australian model Abbey Lee, captures the seductive and ultra-feminine notes of the new fragrance while emphasising its call to strength and self confidence.  A young woman in a diaphanous Flora print dress stands waist high in the middle of a seemingly unending mass of pristine white flowers, illuminated from behind by the setting sun. Taking on the power of nature she controls the movement of the wind to bring the field to life before shape-shifting into a ephemeral, Rorschach-like butterfly of dancing fabric and golden light. Shot over four days in Latvia during July last year, the film’s field was created using more than 20,000 fake flowers.

Riccardo Ruini who developed the concept for the commercial with Giannini and Cunningham, explains the evolution of the film:

“Foremost in our minds was a desire to avoid the heroine being perceived as passive or dreamy.  We wanted to portray the female as an active character who brings to life in an active way the Flora personality by controlling the nature around her. We also felt it was important to demonstrate a movement of the female from mademoiselle to empowered woman; a woman initially delicate and feminine transforming into someone stronger and more powerful. “

Having worked with David Lynch to launch Gucci by Gucci, Ruini and Giannini wanted an equally powerful creative vision at play on the new project.  Working with Italian production house FilmMaster and Ridley Scott’s RSA Films in London, Chris Cunningham took the reins to steer the commercial from concept to execution.

“The main drive was to create a deep poetic feeling rather than something simply romantic, a word that doesn’t fit in the Gucci code. The choice of using Chris Cunningham fit perfectly with this concept,” says Ruini.  “Chris added a lot to the original idea, making the whole project more majestic and cinematic. We strive to give as much creative space as possible to great directors that are involved in our projects so we avoid setting limitations at the outset. Chris developed the initial storyboard by adding his own principles and aesthetics.”

Part of that vision lay in the choice of music.  With Lynch’s film playing out against a backdrop of Blondie’s Heart of Glass, Gucci decided to stick to a 70s and 80s sound and blend Cunningham’s visuals with Donna Summer’s disco classic I Feel Love. “We wanted to go further with the sound on this film and knew of Chris’ renowned passion for music so we asked him what he felt about re-recording, producing and arranging a new working of the track. He answered by travelling to Nashville in November last year for a few days to re-record the vocals with Donna Summer,” reveals Ruini.  “Donna’s track is an amazing classic and we were all blown away the first time the song was played to Chris’ images.”

Bizarre and odd work from American artist Margot Quan Knight. These pictures show of a weird beauty, similar to that fascination you experience with “Circus Freaks”.Beautiful yet disturbing. Images that require a double take, at which point surrealism comes bounding out.

Beginning with a sequence of photographic images created while a researcher at Fabrica—Benetton’s communications and research centre founded in 1994 to foster young creative talent from all over the world—Margot went on to develop her conceptual photography in bundles of themed images.

She draws inspiration from a rich history of photographic artists who focus on the body and her parents’ medical textbooks. She says, “I begin with objects or bodies or plants and try to give them more life, or a different kind of life. Loneliness, exuberance, and wonder take on physical form.” Her work has been exhibited all over the world and appeared in over 40 international publications. She currently lives and works in Seattle, where she is working on a new series called Procreation.

    Get Lost

Let's find some beautiful place to get lost by f letter

TOKYO! Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho

Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho each direct a segment of this surreal triptych film.

The basic premise is that 3 non Japanese directors each complete a segment expressing their view of Toyko , Japan. Michel Gondry (of Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Leos Carax (of the French film The Lovers on the Bridge), and South Korean director Bong Joon-ho (of The Host) are each directing a segment. The film made it’s debut in May last year at Cannes and I believe has just been released in America.

In TOKYO!, three visionary directors (Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho) come together for an omnibus triptych examining the nature of one unforgettable city as it’s shaped by the disparate people who live, work (and run amok) inside an enormous, constantly evolving, densely populated Japanese megalopolis — the enchanting and inimitable Tokyo.

    INTERIOR DESIGN (Michel Gondry).
A young couple tries to set themselves up in Tokyo. The young man’s ambition is clear — to become a film director. His girlfriend, far more indecisive, cannot escape the vague feeling that she’s losing control of her life. Directionless, both are beginning to go under in this vast city until the young woman, utterly alone, becomes the object of a bizarre transformation…

    MERDE (Leos Carax)
A mysterious creature spreads panic in the streets of Tokyo by means of his provocative and destructive behavior. This man, dubbed “The Creature of the Sewers” by the media, arouses both passion and repulsion…until the moment he is captured…

    SHAKING TOKYO (Bong Joon-Ho)
For more than 10 years, he’s been a hikikomori. He lives shut up in his apartment, strictly limiting all contact with the outside world to an absolute minimum. When a pizza delivery girl faints in his home during an earthquake, the unthinkable happens — he falls in love. Shortly after, he learns that the girl has in turn become a hikikomori. Will he dare cross the threshold that separates his apartment from the rest of the world?

Rhapsody, psychogeography, urban valentine, freak show, mindwalk and many other things, TOKYO! is a fantasy in three movements that will make you see one of the world’s greatest cities — if not any city — with a new point of view.

In the tradition of such films as NEW YORK STORIES, NIGHT ON EARTH, PARIS JE T’AIME and its forthcoming sequel NEW YORK I LOVE YOU, TOKYO! addresses the timeless question of whether we shape cities, or if cities shape us — while in the process, revealing the rich humanity at the heart of modern urban life.
